A new luxury lodge is yet to be opened in Volcanoes national park home to 10 habituated gorilla families. Singita lodge located along the kwitonda trail will be open for accommodation services in August 2019. The lodge adds up to the 12 luxury accommodation facilities in Volcanoes national park Rwanda. The lodge will have eight suites and 1 villa offering travelers with exceptional first class food and sleeping services. The opening of Singita lodge will put gorilla watching in Rwanda within easy reach in addition to other travel experiences in volcanoes national park. Rwanda is widely known as one of the luxury travel destinations attributed to the high-end lodges that have been established all over the country. Singita Lodges partially funds the protection and preservation of wildlife population especially the endangered mountain gorillas in the Virunga conservation region. Also, the lodge helps to create economic independence within local communities surrounding protected areas all over the world. Singita was established in South Africa in 1993. The yet to be opened lodge “Kwitonda” is named after a silverback gorilla that died five years ago. Lodge details
Singita lodge is built on 178 hectares of land at the edge of Volcanoes national park. The name “Kwitonda” is in commemoration of the late great silverback, which died of natural death. All rates at the lodge are in USD inclusive of Value added tax at 18% all subject to change with the season. Lao, the costs include all meals, beverages (except French Champagne), laundry and all other in-room services. The price for those staying at Kataza house includes all meals and beverages, house manager, house staff, chef and laundry services. The lodging price excludes telephone calls, tourism development levy, any purchase from the boutique, spa treatments, permits for gorilla trekking, permits for golden monkeys, day trips and transfers from the lodge, French champagne among others. Other Singita lodges in the world include Singita Sasakwa Lodge, Singita Faru Faru Lodge, Singita Sabora Tented camp, Singita Mara River Tented, and Singita Sabora Safari tented camp. Singita currently operates 12 luxury lodges and camps in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania where the Singita Faru Faru lodge recently unveiled a makeover.
Expected Benefits
The addition of Singita lodge is of great benefit to the government of Rwanda and local people. The lodge is to hire more than 70 people from the neighboring local communities, which will improve people’s standards of living. Locale people will be trained to work as waiters, waitresses, receptionists, housekeepers and lodge managers, which is a great benefit.
Conservation
Just like other Singita lodges all over e world, the new Singita lodge aims at preserving and protecting home to iconic endangered mountain gorillas in the Virunga conservation area. Some of the funds collected will be used to support gorilla funding programs and wildlife conservation programs. The three target areas of conservation by Singita lodge are biodiversity, community, and sustainability which preserve wildlife for future. In Rwanda, this conservation focus is through the use of local materials in the construction of the lodge while minimizing waste save energy and water. The design and décor of the lodge were constructed using stone mansons, weavers and ceramicists, which gave it a scenic setting.
